Made to Feel Like Home
At Hills & Burrow, we believe a candle should do more than just smell good. It should set the tone for slow moments and soft landings.
Each candle is hand-poured in small batches using plant-based wax, ECO wicks, and toxin-free fragrance. From the first pour to the final glow, we focus on quality, comfort, and care—so you can feel at home, wherever you light it.

How Our Candles Burn
How Our Candles Burn
Each candle is made to burn clean and evenly, with a soft, consistent glow and a steady scent throw. Whether you're lighting it for a quiet evening or setting the mood for guests, you can count on a beautiful experience from the first light to the last.
Scent Strength
Scent Strength
We use a carefully balanced fragrance load to ensure each candle is pleasantly noticeable—never overpowering. It’s just enough to fill the room without overwhelming your senses.
Burn Smarter, Not Harder
Tips from the Candle Pros to help you get the most out of every candle.
-
Burn Mindfully
Burn your candle for 2–4 hours at a time to allow the wax to fully melt across the surface. This prevents tunneling and helps it last longer. For safety, stop burning when about ¼ inch of wax remains in the jar.
-
Trim the Wick
Before each burn, trim the wick to ¼–½ inch. This helps ensure a steady flame and clean, even burn. Be sure to remove any trimmings from the wax before lighting.
-
Snuff, Don’t Smother
Use a candle snuffer to safely extinguish the flame. Avoid using the lid or blowing it out, as that can cause smoke or wick issues.
-
Store it Right
Keep your candles in a cool, dry, and dark place when not in use to preserve scent and wax integrity. Proper storage makes a big difference.
Made in the Heart of Carolina
Hi there! We’re John and Whitney, the husband and wife duo behind Hills & Burrow.
We started this whole thing at our kitchen table with one goal: to make candles that didn’t give us headaches — literally or figuratively. We were tired of overpriced, overpowering scents and ingredient lists you needed a chemistry degree to decode.
So we kept it simple. Clean, plant-based wax. Gentle, non-toxic fragrance. No weird stuff. Just cozy, calm, and safe to burn every day.
We weren’t in a rush to build a brand. We just liked the process—pouring by hand, testing blends, paying attention to the little things. Turns out that slow, thoughtful rhythm has a name in Sweden: mys. It’s their word for that cozy, content feeling you get when things are just… right. We’re kind of obsessed with it.
These days, not much has changed. We still make our candles in small batches right here in Hillsborough, North Carolina. Still keeping things simple. Still trying to bottle a little peace and quiet into every jar.
We’re glad you’re here! We hope our candles bring something warm, calm, and good-smelling into your space.
